Nellie's is all about tea! Founded in December 2003 and previously located in a retail shop in Biddeford, Maine we moved to our current location in South Portland, effective July 22, 2009. Although not a traditional spot for a retail outlet, this new space allows a variety of operations to take place, including tea blending and packaging, tea education and tastings, as well as a pleasant shopping experience or a chance to stop for a moment with a soothing cup of tea in our small seating area.
Owner Marianne Russo is certified as a tea specialist by the U.S. Tea Association and has traveled to countries of origin such as China and Japan to learn first hand the culture of this ancient leaf. Our mission is to share a passion for the civility, ceremony, and history of this versatile beverage.
Products available for purchase at our showroom include: fine teas from carefully sourced tea gardens and companies, hard to find accompaniments to tea such as delicious lemon curd, Devon Cream, Demerara Sugar, candied flower petals, Digestive Biscuits and shortbread. We also carry all things "loosely" related to tea: books, including the Tea Shop Mystery Series, tea pots, tea cups, tea cozies and tea wallets, table linens, teapot jewelry and Broken China jewelry, brewing equipment, and other service and preparation accoutrements. Tea is available by the pot in our limited seating space, or to go!. For a full four course tea, reservations are required. Check our website for our business hours and directions on finding us. We are conveniently located less than a mile from the
Route #1/ Pleasant Hill Rd. intersection on the South Portland/Scarborough line, easily accessible from I-295 and the Maine Turnpike.
Additional services available include catered tea service at your venue or a third party venue, custom tea blending for your business, family, or special event, as well as speaking on various topics related to tea for your organization, group of friends, or youth organizations. I am willing to consider most requests and if unable to provide what you need can probably refer you to a source who can. I look forward to seeing you soon.
