    Dinner meeting from 5:15PM - 7:30PM

Is Your Risk Taking Helping You Flourish?

Join Diana Coleman, lecturer and writer, for a provocative presentation and interactive discussion about women’s beneficial risks. Fascinated by how one defines a risk and interested in women’s risk-taking stories, Diana interviewed a variety of women around the US and internationally, about overcoming challenges and taking risks. Her future book portrays stories of women who are achieving their passions by taking diverse, new risks at age 50+, their second half of life—from roller derby skating at 70—to adopting two children as a single mom—to donating a kidney to a stranger. Diana will share some stories and inspire attendees of all ages to think about how they define risk, risks taken, and future ambitions

A risk-taking woman in her 60s with over thirty-five years of public speaking, marketing, nonprofit organization administration and fundraising experience, Diana formerly raised $200+ million with teams globally for education, health, international aid and the environment, with nonprofit organizations, including Save the Children and the University of California, Berkeley. Diana’s work has taken her to Ethiopia, Egypt, Jordan, the Philippines, Indonesia and Guatemala. She is currently involved with educating girls and women’s microenterprise programs in Kenya—portrayed in her story Glimpses of Kenya from a Mzungu Woman in the 2015 Goose River Anthology. A former career counselor at American University, Washington, DC, Diana also taught “Nonprofit Management” at JFK University, California. She received an undergraduate degree from Russell Sage College, Troy, New York and a master’s degree from American University. Originally from Massachusetts, she lived thirty years in San Francisco and now lives in Rockland, Maine.

Please register before Friday, March 31 at 12pm to ensure a spot for this engaging topic.  Advance payment and registration is required for this event. Registrants may pay via credit card online, or checks can be mailed to Jodie Heal, Midcoast MWN Treasurer, at Heal Accounting Solutions, P.C., P.O. Box 332, South Thomaston, ME 04858.

"HU-MAINE: Creating a Kinder World for Animals"

    Katie Hansberry
    Maine Senior State Director
The Humane Society of the United States

Nearly everyone's life is impacted in some way by animals, and of course we humans impact the lives of animals. The Humane Society of the United States is leading the way to a humane and sustainable world for all animals -- a world that will also benefit people.

Katie will talk about the work being done in Maine to create meaningful social change for animals. She'll share information about the advocacy for sensible public policies, working to enforce existing laws, educating the public about animal issues, and conducting hands-on programs.

You'll also learn about the simple actions you can take in your everyday life to help animals and the people who care for them as well as how to be proactive in building humane communities.  Please note:  We understand that many people are very sensitive to animal abuse stories and photos.  We are too! That's why we've asked Katie to emphasize the positive in her presentation.

As Maine senior state director for the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), Katie Hansberry  works to support animal welfare legislation, fight animal cruelty in all forms, and engage citizens to promote the protection of all animals.
She is a board member of the Maine Federation of Human Societies, State of Maine Animal Resource Team, and New England Federation of Humane Societies.

Katie received her bachelor's degree in economics and environmental studies from Bowdoin College and then went on to graduate from Boston College Law School and practice as a civil litigation attorney. She decided to focus her career on animal welfare and pursued a master's degree in Animals and Public Policy at Tufts Veterinary School. She joined HSUS in 2012 and resides in Portland with her cats Goody and Boots, as well as her Corgis, Scully and Mulder.

    "The Over Problem:
    When Self-Care Turns to Self-Sabotage"

    Katie Pulsifer
Certified Life & Weight Loss Coach

Most of us have a deep, inherent desire to live our lives from a place of self-responsibility, self-love, and self-respect. And when we take impeccable care of ourselves, everything and everyone around us thrive. But unfortunately many of us struggle to find the time to take great care of ourselves.

Women today are overwhelmed, tired, and stressed out with all our responsibilities and obligations. Our self-care too often gets ignored or -- even worse -- turns into certain "over" behaviors that are self-sabotaging.  Over-committing, over-eating, over-promising, over-spending, over-drinking, over-worrying -- all these cycles can have very negative consequences for ourselves and our families.

Find out how to stop the "over" cycle and reclaim your power. Learn why you can't rely on self-care alone to make you feel better. Discover how self-responsibility is actually how you learn to manage your emotions and create the self-love and self-respect to stop your "over" sabotaging behaviors in their tracks and eliminate them once and for all.

Katie Pulsifer is a certified life and weight loss coach through The Life Coach School. She supports others on their journeys to richer and more meaningful lives through private and group coaching programs.

Katie loves what she does because she knows from personal experience that collaboration and accountability work to create inspired and lasting change. She is passionate about coaching because she believes in the power of transformation. With the right tools and support, a life with true intention and purpose is available to all.
